Colonial Disc Golf Club, formerly Newport News Disc Golf Club (NNDGC), was formed in the Fall of 1998, a year after the course was installed at Newport News Park in Newport News, Virginia. We are recognized as a 501(c)(4) Tax Exempt Organization under the Internal Revenue code. We were formed to promote the sport of Disc Golf in the local and regional area. Many of the original club members were players from the Bayville Disc Golf Course in Virginia Beach; home of the first course in the area, established in 1977. Even today, the Bayville Disc Golf Club and Colonial Disc Golf Club share common roots in Southeast Virginia hosting several events together each year to grow and promote the game.
The Colonial Disc Golf Club Executive Board consists of:
President John Roy
Vice President Larry Merrill
Treasurer Tim Dempsey
Secretary Kat Douglas
With the addition of New Quarter Park Disc Golf course in 2006 the club took on new responsibilities and opportunities to improve the local Disc Golf scene. From 1998-2013 the club has hosted over 40 PDGA sanctioned events, over 20 charity tournaments, and drawn over 5000 weekly series players.
About Disc Golf
Disc golf is played much like traditional golf. Instead of a ball and clubs, however, players use a flying disc. A golf disc is thrown from a tee area to an elevated metal basket, which is the “hole.” Disc Golf is designed to be enjoyed by people of all ages, male and female, regardless of economic status.
Disc golf can be played from school age to old age, making it one of the greatest lifetime fitness sports available. The Professional Disc Golf Association, is the governing body for the sport and sanctions competitive events for men and women of every skill level.
